POST 5: FINAL TOPIC

I have finally narrowed down my search for topic to one! The final result of my search is not without the help of an expert (Dr. Petrik). Finally, I have been pointed to a direction in a time period best suitable for the time constraints and the information available for a topic. I have chosen to do my paper on Asian children with an emphasis on Asian twins in the late 1800s to early part of the 1900s. I chose three books from The Twins World Series written by Lucy Fitch Perkins (1865-1937). She wrote a twenty five book series on twins around the world, mostly a boy – girl combination of twins. The series is written for children about children from other cultures. The twins in her books range from various countries around the world. Some from North America, South America, Asia and from Europe; the three books I have chosen are from the Asian countries. I chose the twins from Japan, China and Philippines.

My issue that I will be exploring in my topic is the perception of the Asian culture, specifically Asian children in the late part of the 1800s to the early part of the 1900s. I will discuss what the author is trying to portray in her writing about the selected Asian twins and their culture. I will try and decipher what message the author is trying to communicate with her young readers. In doing so, I hope to learn more about the lives of Asian children at the turn of the 19th century to the 20th century.
